Black mirror - Bandersnatch Review

It's pretty common to hear actors talking about the first time they read a script for a project, but you generally don't hear about them playing one.
Black Mirror's one-off interactive episode, Bandersnatch, required a different approach for its actors to get acquainted with its multi-limbed script – creator Charlie Brooker turned it into a Twine game.
"[The script] was very, very confusing to read in its physical form", says Colin Ritman actor Will Poulter to IGN. "But I later got the opportunity to read it in sort of Twine document format. So it's a kind of software that allows you to effectively play the script and experience it in a similar way to how the viewer experiences it, and that helped to make sense of it."

"I had a meeting with Charlie [Brooker] and [executive producer Annabel Jones] so we could discuss it all, because I hadn't been sent the script [...] and they said they were working on the Twine, and that they did have a paper copy script, but Charlie I'm pretty sure said to me, 'I don't think you should read it, it's incredibly confusing, the Twine document's nearly finished'."

The Twine version was likely even larger than the final product, too, with Whitehead saying: "I can't tell you for certain, as I haven't watched all of the different options, but I'm pretty sure we shot stuff that was not included in the end because there was just so much."
That's not to say it's small - we still haven't tracked down all of Bandersnatch's endings, and we know some are very hidden indeed.
We said Bandersnatch "takes the best aspects of video games and movies to create a compelling experience" in our 8.0 review.
